2018 Island View Trial Race at Franklin Trail
Posted by Marque on Aug 27, 2018 in Blog | 0 commentsFor the third year in a row the Island View Trail Race will be held at the Franklin Trail. This year the landscape will have a new look. The Thomas Fire damaged all but the first mile of the course.
As you might imagine, after a winter of fire and debris flows, Franklin Trail needs all the help it can get. Proceeds from the trail race will be added to the trail repair fund. The trail segment that goes through Los Padres National Forest was most severely damaged.
Join over 150 runners on a scenic course in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains with panoramic views of the Carpinteria Coast, Pacific Ocean, and Channel Islands from a soon to be beautiful, but fire damaged coastal chaparral setting. This year's race includes a 4-mile course and a 10-mile course. The longer distance race through Los Padres National Forest is being postponed until the the trail conditions are safe.
Both races start at Carpinteria High School, 4810 Foothill Road, and are out and back courses that wind around the campus and nearby orchards before climbing up Franklin Trail. The shorter course, which starts at 7:15 a.m., turns back at the end of the single track, and the longer course, which starts at 7 a.m., continues on the dirt road to the beginning of the Los Padres National Forest single track trail. The cost is $40 for the 4-miler and $70 for the 10-miler.
