Adopt-a-Plot | 2020

habitat restoration

This year we are developing a new Habitat Restoration program organized by our Trail Stewardship Committee.

This new volunteer program is called Adopt-a-plot and is aimed at individuals or teams interested in preserving and enhancing trailside habitats by adopting a small, pre-selected habitat within a mile-long section of the trail. Each person or team will get its own 10 x 30-foot plot. They will be responsible for clearing invasive non-native plants, weeding, and monitoring their plot under our guidance.

The individuals or teams will be guided and mentored in habitat restoration techniques and methods by knowledgeable Stewards throughout the whole process. We ask each person or team to dedicate a year to their plot and have people come once a month.

What are the incentives?

  • See how a trail changes with the seasons
  • Learn the plants and animals that call the trail home
  • Socialize with all volunteers and Stewards
  • Hands-on training and enjoying the outdoors
  • A certificate of accomplishment at the end of the year
  • Recognition on our website
  • Watch your plot go from weedy invasive plants to native grasses and sagebrush habitat
  • And most important: IT’S FUN, feels great to give back and enjoy nature!

Ready to roll up your sleeves, grab a shovel and restore a trailside habitat?
